Women’s 5 a Side and Kwik Cricket Intramural Spaces Still Available

Join our Kwik Cricket or brand-new Women’s 5 a Side Football intramural league this semester.

Kwik Cricket will run every Wednesday from 8th November between 18.30 – 22.00 in the Upper Hall at Sport Central. Women’s 5 a Side starts from week commencing 6th November at Sport Central.

Not only do intramural leagues offer healthy sporting competition, it’s also a great opportunity to connect with like-minded students.

If this sounds like the opportunity you’d like to get involved with, read on for more details below about both our programmes on offer:

Kwik Cricket:

Sport Central’s Upper Hall plays host to the league, which commences 8 November and runs between 18.30-22.00. This offering is FREE for semester 1. All equipment is provided, and students of all experience are welcome.

The league comprises of six teams, concluding with a final’s competition. Teams bat for six overs each, offering a great opportunity to play regular, competitive cricket in a friendly environment.

Women’s 5 a Side:

Our new addition to the intramural programme will see a Women’s 5 a Side League.

The league will initially run for six weeks from week commencing 6th November at Sport Central and will provide students with an exciting, competitive league for the price of £10 per semester. Matches will last 25 minutes, complete with fully qualified officials.

Students can enter either as a team or individually. Those who signup individually will be allocated a team to join and play weekly fixtures with. All teams are made up of Northumbria students who compete against one another to be crowned champions of the intramural league.

Sport Development Officer, Keir Tattersdill, responsible for co-ordinating all intramural leagues explains: “We have seen over previous seasons friendships form through our leagues and students being proud to compete under our Intramural Leagues banner.”

“We aim to be progressive and continuously seek new opportunities for our students to compete as we understand the positive impact our leagues have on students physical and mental health,” adds Keir.

As mentioned above, and as evidenced by the success of the established Men’s 5, 7- and 11-a-Side Football Leagues, being a member of an intramural team can also lead to opportunities away from the pitch. Team social activities have proven to be a great way to get to know your team, make new friends and help performances on the pitch!

So, if our intramural leagues sound like they’re for you, make sure to sign up to our available spaces here to get started. We look forward to seeing you in action!
