Our scholarship programme aims to support student athletes to develop both athletically and academically.
At Northumbria Sport, our scholarship programme covers a wide range of sports, including our Focus Five: Basketball, Football, Rugby League, Rugby Union, and Volleyball, as well as many others. Scholarships are designed to support the dual aspirations of student athletes, ensuring they can excel both on the field and in the classroom.
Applications for the scholarships are now open, and we would encourage talented athletes worldwide to apply. With intakes happening in January and September each year, there’s plenty of time to get your application in.
Our scholarships give support services that are tailored to meet individual needs, with scholarships incorporating the following: New Balance scholar leisure wear, strength and conditioning, physiotherapy, gym & fitness membership, financial support (where applicable) and an array of informative workshops. Our Dual Career Support also ensures we are helping student athletes to develop their sporting aspirations whilst gaining a quality degree.
One of the standout features of being a Northumbria scholar is gaining access to the facilities at both Sport Central and Coach Lane Sports Ground. These facilities are complemented by a team of expert coaches and support staff, ensuring that athletes receive top-tier training and guidance. Additionally, scholars will benefit from tailored academic support to help them balance their rigorous training schedules with their studies.
Northumbria University has many notable alumni achieving national and international sporting success including the likes of Victoria Pendleton, Stephen Miller, Taka Suzuki, Will Muir and Josh Hodge to name a few. The scholarship programme is expected to further elevate the university's reputation as one of the leading institutions for student athletes in the UK.
