Intramural Leagues
Your weekly dose of competitive, social, and skill-building football – open to all abilities!
Intramural leagues are held inside the university, and at Northumbria, that means inclusive, friendly, and competitive football opportunities for all students, whether you’re lacing up your boots for the first time or playing every week.
With over 300 students participating every year, our Intramural Football Leagues provide a great way to stay active, meet new people, and represent your course, society, or halls in a structured league format.
Choose your league
- Wednesdays – 11-a-side Football (grass)
Competitive full-pitch league and cup games for teams who want to go big or go home. - Fridays – 5-a-side Football (indoor)
Fast-paced, fun-focused small-sided games – perfect for a post-week unwind. - Saturdays – 7-a-side Football (3G)
A flexible middle ground offering space, structure, and serious fun.
All games are held at top-quality facilities, based at our Coach Lane Sports Ground – fully equipped with changing facilities, showers, toilets, and a mix of 3G, grass pitches, and an indoor sports hall.
League & Cup Format
Our Intramural Football programme features fixtures running from October to March. Teams play each other in their league, with bragging rights on the line, and the most successful team wins the league trophy.
Some leagues are also knockout cup competitions. Cup matches that finish in a draw go straight to penalties (no extra time), adding to the drama.
