Northumbria Focus On Fast5s
Tuaine Keenan Will Anchor The TN Defence

Team Northumbria have named the first two players set to contest September's lucrative British Fast5 All Stars event at London's O2 Arena.

Head coach TeAroha Keenan has 10 spots available for the big-money event as TN chase a share of the £100,000 prize fund.

And Keenan has kicked off a big week of signings by recruiting Northern Ireland star Fi Toner and defensive lynchpin Tuaine Keenan from her 2017 Netball Superleague roster.

The eight teams involved can include players from outside their NSL squad but Keenan said: "I wanted to start with what I know and both Fi and Tuaine are perfectly suited to Fast5 netball.

"We are looking further afield to give our team an extra boost but it's important that we build on the core of last season's NSL squad.

"Both Fi and Tuaine are familiar faces to Sport Central fans and I'm sure they'll be popular choices in the London line-up.

"I've seen Fast5 netball in New Zealand and Australia and it's a fantastic game. We are not going down there to make up the numbers - we're going down there to make a big impression."

The inaugural British Fast 5 All Stars event brings together the best eight NSL franchises in Britain.

And the shortened version of netball promises thrills and spills from the off with 12 minute matches and instant elimination from the group stage for any side that picks up two defeats.

Players will score five points for goals converted from outside the conventional shooting circle - a feature designed to encourage long-range attempts.

The winners will pick up a cheque for £25,000 with the runners-up guaranteed £20,000 and the losing semi-finalists £12,500 apiece.

Tickets are on sale now with Sport Central fans able to sit in a special TN zone. The event takes place from 5pm-10pm on Saturday September 23 and tickets are available from www.theo2.co.uk
