Northumbria Fire Winning SHOTS

Northumbria University retained their England Netball SHOTS title following a superb run to the final at London’s Copper Box Arena.

The Sport Central squad pipped second-placed University of Nottingham and bronze medallists University of Hertfordshire to become champions for the second successive season.

And Northumbria Sport’s Rachel Owers insisted the NORTH Clubs members deserved special praise for making their name on the national stage.

“SHOTS is an annual national competition organised by England Netball to enable university teams to compete against each other while encouraging continued participation in netball through an open, fair and progressive structure,” she said.

“All the students in our team this year have come through the NORTH Clubs programme, which engages with more than 60 students with a range of different abilities.

“Our 2018 University Netball Officer Molly Carter has led on this club as a student volunteer running a weekly club alongside a league for those looking to develop further.

“It’s testimony to her efforts and the strength of NORTH Clubs that we have brought home the SHOTS title two years on the bounce!”
