This year, Northumbria Taekwondo enters its Second Year with its brand-new committee. We are a passionate and friendly community brought together by a shared love for this sport. NUTKD also has a strong social aspect, outside of training, holding regular activities and events for our members throughout the academic year.
This club is open to all, no matter if you are a white belt, black belt or have never trained in the sport before. The friendly nature of the sport means there is no pressure to compete if you are looking for casual training sessions. However, if you have a competitive nature, don’t worry, we always send small teams to each BUCS Championship and some other events. Attendance at these competitions meant last year we were able to bring home a total of 12 Gold, Silver and Bronze medals and aim to win even more!
In English, Taekwondo translates to “the way or art of the foot and fist”. This definition provides a good representation of what to expect from Taekwondo here at Northumbria, incorporating the practice of Kicking techniques and hand strikes into regular training. We also incorporate the 2 main physical skills of Taekwondo into training: Poomsae, meaning Form, and Kyorugi, meaning Sparring. Through our brilliant coach, we teach and learn these principles and the proper techniques in both WTF and ITF variations of Taekwondo.
