Northumbria Taekwondo is now in its second year with a brand-new committee. We are a passionate and friendly community brought together by a sport we all love. NUTKD also has a strong social aspect, holding regular activities and events throughout the academic year. We also make Strength and Conditioning Sessions for those a part of NUTKD. This will be used to improve strength and prevent injuries during practice and training.

NUTKD always send a small team to each of the 4 BUCS championships each year, allowing us to be one of the top Sports Clubs in the 2024/25 year, bringing in a total of 12 Gold, Silver and Bronze medals. This year, we aim to go to as many competitions as we can!

In Korean, Taekwondo translates to “the way or art of the foot and fist”. This provides a representation of what to expect from Taekwondo, a martial art that emphasises kicking techniques, hand strikes, and jumps. It also incorporates 3 main physical skills: Poomsae, meaning form; Kyorugi, meaning Sparring; and Gyeokpa, meaning Breaking Technique. At Northumbria Taekwondo, through the brilliant Simone Abley, we teach and learn these principles and the proper techniques in both WTF and ITF variations of Taekwondo
