Simone Abley gets Silver for Northumbria!

Silver medal for Taekwondo’s Simone after an extraordinary campaign at the the European University Games 2024 

Northumbria Scholar, Simone Abley does it again and earns a spot on the podium at the recent European University Games (EUG). After an amazing gold medal result at the previous edition, she managed to hold her place as a fierce opponent in the 67kg Taekwondo with an outstanding second place finish.  

With a late afternoon start, the final went underway with Simone having a 13-10 lead after the first round, having eventually lost the match with a Round 2 & 3 win for Ivana Arelic, from the  University of Zagreb.  

We couldn’t be any happier for Simone as this was an amazing way to finish her academic career.  It has been a pleasure having her represent Northumbria across national and international competitions. From September 2024, Simone will continue her passion for taekwondo at Northumbria but as a coach rather than student.
