Badminton is open to all Northumbria University students at any level of experience. Our Badminton club boast a friendly, diverse and active club with the desire to support club members whether you class yourself as a social player right through to those on the international circuit.

On top of all the fun you’ll have playing badminton, you’ll enjoy a variety of social events organised by the club making it the perfect opportunity to play the sport you love while having a great time and making new friends.

The club have four teams entered in to BUCS (Men's 1st, Men's 2nd, Women's 1st and Women's 2nd).

Badminton were shortlisted for the Club of the Year Award at Northumbria Sports Ball Awards 2026, and Head Coach Rob Wetherell was shortlisted for Coach of the Year 2026.

COMPETE memberships includes BUCS team entry for Men's 1st, Men's 2nd, Women's 1st and Women's 2nd teams. Fixtures typically take places on Wednesdays. Capacity of up to 8 members per team. Squads to be selected during Big Week of Sport.

Equipment can be provided by the club for new students where required, including shuttlecocks. Returning members should look to purchase own equipment.

2026/27 memberships will be available to purchase following attendance at the Taster and Squad Selection events during Big Week of Sport in September.
