Northumbria Vaulter Myers In Pole Position

Northumbria University athlete Charlie Myers in enjoying a red hot June after bagging two medals in three days.

The Middlesbrough star is targeting a spot at this summer’s European Under 23 Championships and August’s World Student Games.

And Myers is bang on course to compete at both after winning medals in two key events this month.

The pole vaulter claimed gold in the England Athletics Under 23 Championships with a leap of 5m35cm.

And Myers bettered that mark by five centimetres in Copenhagen 72 hours later - only to miss out on gold by countback.

The TASS supported athlete - coached by Chris Boundy - is a familiar face at Sport Central.

And Northumbria University Director of Sport Colin Stromsoy said: “Everyone is keeping their fingers crossed for Charlie this summer.

“He’s getting better and better every year and we’re very proud of the progress he’s making.”
