Five Northumbria University students competed on the international stage this month in the 2017 World University Summer Games.
Representing both university and country in Chinese Taipei, they faced off against other top student athletes from across the globe.
But Northumbria’s pole vault prodigy Charlie Myers had a trip to forget when his competition was cut short due to a hamstring injury during warm ups.
Four members of Team Northumbria’s women’s football squad made the trip: Emma Kelly, Ellie Dobson and Tyler Dodds all named in the British squad.
And Niamh McLaughlin represented Ireland, also in the women’s football tournament.
Both Britain and Ireland’s women got off to a slow start in the first round of the tournament, failing to secure a win.
However, the British squad pulled off two incredible wins in the following round, beating Argentina 6-1 and Colombia 7-1.
McLaughlin and Ireland fought a hard match against hosts Chinese Taipei, winning on penalties after neither could break the deadlock at 1-1.
The tournament saw all four Northumbria women reunited for their final game, as Britain took on Ireland.
The Brits came away 2-0 winners on the night, taking ninth place overall in the tournament and leaving Ireland in 10th.
