Northumbria Snap Up Ovner

Team Northumbria are sensing the Swede smell of success after landing yet another top class Scandinavian baller.

Evelyn Ovner arrives on Tyneside on the back of four seasons with US Division Two college Bridgeport.

And the powerful forward will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of fellow Swede Abi Asoro - a big hit at Sport Central before she headed for Europe earlier this year.

“Evelyn captained her college and is a strong presence in the paint,” said TN playcaller Chris Bunten.

“She hit seven from seven from the floor in our friendly against Edinburgh and top scored.

“I really like the look of her all-round game. She’s a solid forward who’s mobile and can cause a lot of problems in the WBBL.”

Ovner suffered a cruciate ligament injury during her second year at Bridgeport.

But TN’s new recruit took the decision to turn down surgery and now plays her basketball in a leg brace after making a full recovery.

Ovner is studying for an MSc in Digital Marketing at Northumbria University and will play a key role in Northumbria’s BUCS team.

“We’ve managed to strike a good balance throughout the team but there are still a couple of spots to finalise,” added Bunten.

“I’m hoping to be in a position to announce another major signing very soon.”
