Already this semester, the Northumbria Sport Rugby League and Rugby Union teams took part in a taster event of wheelchair rugby league where we worked in partnership with Newcastle Wheelchair Rugby ‘North East Barbarian’s’ who supplied coaching and wheelchairs for the session. Jason Payne, Head of Rugby League at Northumbria said: “It was a brilliant session for everyone involved and great to see our students try a sport they've never done before in a fun and inclusive environment. It’ll be great to see other students across the university come along and try it out and find out more.”
Northumbria Sport are keen to encourage more students to be active and want to provide an inclusive environment and programme that supports students who have a disability, long-term or mental health condition.
If you require any additional information regarding these sessions or would like to talk to us more about inclusive sport, whether that is to suggest new sports to try or ways to get involved please contact our Sport Development Manager, Andy Barton andy.barton@northumbria.ac.uk.
