Northumbria University’s reputation as a breeding ground for the best in British Futsal talent has been reinforced after two former students earned their first senior international caps.
Graduates Adam Barr and Scott Gunn were both Team Northumbria Futsal presidents during their time at Sport Central.
And this summer the pair have been capped at senior level for the first time by Northern Ireland.
“This is further evidence that Northumbria’s Futsal programme is moving in the right direction,” said coach Michael Gunn.
“This year we’ve seen the women’s firsts with the BUCS Championship and the men’s seconds join them at the Copperbox Arena in London.
“A number of current players are on the international radar as far as England are concerned.
“And seeing Adam and Scott pull on Northern Ireland shirts gives everyone involved with Futsal at the University a huge boost.
“Although we’re losing a few key players this year I’m really excited about just how far our men’s and women’s Futsal programmes can go.”
