A game of missed opportunity for Team Northumbria as they suffer a 3-2 loss at Coach Lane to Seaham Red Star.
Despite making a number of chances, TN couldn’t do enough to secure the points against the experienced Red Star.
“We could have seen ourselves easily two or three up in the first half but it didn’t happen,” said lead coach Derek Forrest.
“The strong winds definitely played a part in the game, but the story became about free kicks.
“We had three fantastic free kicks in good areas in the first half, we’d get brought down at the edge of the box.
“We haven’t hit the target on those three occasions, they’ve had one free kick, used the wind very cleverly and smashed it into the corner.
“So, we find ourselves 1-0 down after a 3-1 succession of free kicks. That was the story early on, we missed our opportunity with the wind.
“Then we’ve given another free kick away, they’ve played it into the box, we’ve half cleared it and the lad has struck it into the bottom corner.”
TN went into half time 2-0 down despite having the majority of chances in the game.
However, Team North came out swinging in the second half with a goal putting themselves right back in the game.
Full backs Liviu Cristea and Sam Read have linked up for Read to grab the goal coming in from the left.
“At this point we’re right in the game, we’ve got the momentum but we’re still not converting the chances we’re making,” Forrest continued.
“We’ve then made a criminal error losing the ball in midfield for a Red Star winger go on and score a fantastic goal on their behalf but a really poor goal for us to concede.
“Red Star were very clever at halting our momentum and trying to spoil our game at that point but we kept pushing.
“Then Bynoe came on as a substitute and scored for us to make it 3-2.
“However, I think the message is that we’ve now moved up a standard, in this league there’s 400 better players than there was last year.
“The biggest message is that we can’t give these teams head starts, if it’s one then that happens but definitely not 2, 2 is a hard chase at this standard.”
