Northumbria Sport celebrates #SVW2018

Northumbria Sport have once again joined in with national Student Volunteering Week (19th-25th February) and celebrated the amazing work of our volunteers, interns, professional hosts and partners! During each day of #SVW2018 we showcased an area of the Award Winning Northumbria Sport Student Development Programme to raise the profile of the positive impact our student workforce have and to thank them for their contributions to the university and the community.

On day 1 of #SVW2018 we showcased the fantastic work of our Northumbria Sport Academy Volunteers and Coaches who have engaged with 764 children in sport and physical activity since the start of this year through multi-sport camps, school visits and Team Northumbria Netball Superleague community sessions. We also celebrated the work of our Northumbria Sport Foundation volunteers and coaches who so far this year have delivered 6 fantastic community programmes, engaged 124 people in sport and activity, and have been nominated for the North East Disability Club of the Year!

On day 2 of #SVW2018 we showcased our volunteers' impact in the local community. We have over 40 volunteers coaching and developing sport in rugby, football, tennis and schools with our 9 partner organisations. Our community volunteers not only make a real difference to people locally but they also have the opportunity to network with professionals within our partner orgnaisations including the Newcastle United Foundation, the LTA and Percy Hedley School.

Day 3 of #SVW2018 came live from the FA People's Cup where we showcased the NORTH team and the volunteers who made this event possible! Our NORTH interns, volunteers and club volunteers ensure that over 40 sports are delivered on a weekly basis to 1338 participants! They also promote and organise participation events, just like the FA People's Cup that engage students in fun social sport and physical activity.

For Day 4 of #SVW2018 we were on the road again and presenting about the Student Development Programme at the BUCS Workforce Development Event at Nottingham Trent University! We were also showcasing the fantastic work of our Team Northumbria support services interns, volunteers and professional hosts who provide strength and conditioning, psychology, nutrition, performance analysis and BUCS competition support to Team Northumbria teams and athletes throughout the year.

On day 5 of #SVW2018 we showcased our Student Management Group led by Student Sport President Kerry-Anne Hastings and celebrated the campaigns and events they have promoted across Northumbria Sport including Rainbow Ribbons, Stan Calvert and Mental Health Awareness week.

On day 6 of #SVW2018 we showcased the Sport Experience team who assist with the NORTH fitness offer and our sports marketing & communications team who promote and organise Northumbria Sport events! We also celebrated the fantastic work of Simon Rushworth's Media team who bring you reports from Northumbria Sport fixtures and events throughout the year. You can read about Media Intern Dan's experience in his article that the Student Volunteering Network published on their website for SVW https://www.studentvolunteeringnetwork.com/articles/student-in-the-spotlight-dan-simmonite

Day 7 of #SVW2018 couldn't have landed on a better day with our annual varsity competition against Newcastle University - Stan Calvert! There is so much work that goes on behind the scenes to make this event happen and it brings together all our volunteers and interns from across the programme. What a fantastic way to end #SVW2018 with a 5th successive Stan Calvert win - testament to the hard work of our students, volunteers, interns and staff! A huge congratulations to everyone involved this week and we can't wait for next years' SVW!
