Team Northumbria ended their poor run of form yesterday with a commanding victory over league strugglers Esh Winning.
Goals from Joel Bradley and Daniel Taggart proved to be the difference for TN who, at times, looked back to their best at Coach Lane.
“We’ve had a difficult few weeks for a number of different reasons,” said TN manager Colin Stromsoy.
“We’ve had some long term injuries and thankfully we’ve got players looking to finally come back. But we’ve also had some short term injuries which have forced us to readjust.
“We’ve had a couple of dodgy results of late because of a variety of factors but the biggest thing for me is that we’re still there at the top of the league.”
Despite the win, Stromsoy admitted his team have not quite found their feet yet and must work hard to get back on track.
“We’ve played really well and enjoyed the majority of the possession,” added Stromsoy. “But in truth, we’ve made real hard work of that at times.
“It was a great goal from Dan following some great play in behind but we should’ve scored more.
“At the start of the season we had that cutting edge - we were playing with confidence and purpose and weren’t missing chances like we did today.
“We were clinical and regularly finding the back of the net and it’s important that we get back to that standard and level of consistency.”
However, on the whole it was an impressive team performance from TN who appear to have put recent results firmly behind them.
“I was really pleased with certain aspects of the performance,” added Stromsoy. “We’ve tried a new formation and it’s worked well.
“Nick Green and Aidan Heywood were progressing into more advanced roles allowing us to press earlier and quicker and Scott Gunn dropped into full back really well where necessary.
“Considering everything that’s gone on, I’m glad we’ve finished this week off with a win that’ll enable us to go into next week with a positive mindset.”
