Team Northumbria slipped to an agonising loss to Northern League Division One leaders Morpeth Town after conceding in the 82nd minute.
The game kicked off at Coach Lane in blustery conditions as the Northumbria University side played long balls which caused problems for the Highwaymen’s defence.
TN’s first chance came on 35 minutes when Angelos Eleftheriadis rocketed a strike towards goal, which forced the Morpeth goalkeeper to produce a fine flying save and deny the full back from outside the area.
It was a game in which both sides had their chances, and this time it was TN keeper Stefan Holden who denied ex-York City player Liam Henderson as his header was tipped over the bar on the half-time whistle.
The first goal of the game eventually came on 75 minutes when Stephen Turnbull played in Sean Taylor down the left - the winger then cutting inside the box and slotting into the bottom corner.
Josh Bynoe had only been on the pitch eight minutes but he repaid manager Colin Stromsoy’s decision to bring him on by grabbing the equaliser with 10 minutes to go - rolling the ball into an open goal after a cross from the right.
But TN’s jubilation proved to be premature as Morpeth hit right back just a minute later - Mark Davison’s header beating Holden and securing Town all three points on the day.
TN now sit 13th in the league and enjoy a comfortable 11-point gap between them and the relegation zone.
Next up for TN is a mid-table clash away at Ryhope Colliery Welfare on November 4 (3pm ko).
