Team Northumbria come away with the three points in what was an ‘enormous’ win at Coach Lane.
The first home game in the Northern League saw TN face off against Billingham Synthonia, resulting in a comfortable 2-0 victory for the hosts.
“I’m really pleased tonight, we’ve followed up well from Saturday’s loss to Ashington,” said TN lead coach Derek Forrest.
“We probably missed a bit of quality on Saturday, but we’ve managed to give a lot of quality tonight.
“I think we’ve won the game comfortably, it could have been three or four, we had a lot of good chances.
“The effort was superb, I’m delighted for the lads and with the lads. They work hard, we all work hard and we’ve been rewarded tonight. I’m delighted with that obviously.
TN’s first goal came in the first half, from a Liam MacNamara cross, drilled low from the right, under pressure from Andrei Ardelan the final touch came off a Billingham defender and into his own net.
The second half saw TN put another past Synthonia stopper Liam Gibbs, with Ardelan heading into an open net as a cross in from the right wing had caught Gibbs out of position.
“We’re confident going into the next game on Saturday,” Forrest continued.
“We are the first team to win since being promoted this season, that’s enormous and I said that to the lads tonight.
“We’ve made a statement tonight and we’re on the board, that’ll move us. We know we can work hard and apply ourselves.
“I think we’re in a good place when it comes to attitude and effort. We’ve said this to the lads, me and Colin, we just need to bridge the gap in know-how.
“It’s a young squad we have, up against 27/28-year-olds, we have got to learn quick and we will.”
