M1 Squash and M1 Badminton were the big winners on BUCS Conference Cup day with both sides bringing silverware back to Sport Central.
After going two sets down against derby rivals Durham, Northumbria’s squash stars mounted a courageous comeback, winning the game 3-2. A squad dominated by first year students looks destined for future success.
A superb season continues for Northumbria Badminton. With a Stan Calvert win already under their belt, the team took the Conference Cup 4-4, 9-8 on countback against Bangor. Young coach and player Garylee McMullen lead the charge with a standout performance.
M2 Water Polo were edged out 5-3 against Sheffield and W2 Football were defeated 3-0 by Loughborough. W2 Basketball mounted a late charge down the stretch only to slip to a 49-42 loss against Manchester Metropolitan.
