Northumbria University Raises £23,000 in Record-Breaking Movember Campaign

Northumbria University has delivered its most impactful Movember campaign yet, bringing together 40 sports clubs and societies in a month of fundraising activities to champion men’s health – raising an incredible £23,000.

Driven by VP Sport’s Olly Scanlan, VP Welfare Isaac Akakpo as well as Northumbria’s first ever Movember Ambassador, Elias Carroll, the campaign showcased unprecedented engagement from the university’s sporting community with 29 out of 37 clubs taking part in fundraising. Olly said: “Sport Clubs have always supported with Movember but this year is the biggest engagement we’ve ever seen, where so many of our clubs have come together to help support this worthwhile cause.”

Olly continued: “Our newly formed Running Club raised more than any other club with an incredible £3,543, but the real success is the contribution from all our clubs to our overall fundraising total.”

The month had everything from a 60km run, pub quizzes to sea dips and an awards ceremony to finish off the month, all collectively raising money for mental health and suicide prevention charities.

Here are some of the highlights of the month:

60km Movember Run
Over 140 runners took part throughout the day, with 20 completing the full 60km distance – raising £2,000.

Movember Quad Day
One of the campaign’s biggest highlights, the Quad Day, saw 340 participants and 30+ sports clubs, staff and societies cycle a combined 4,656km over 12 hours, raising £550. The event also marked the launch of a new Men’s Mental Health Society, reinforcing the campaign’s lasting impact into continuing to make a difference.

Movember Big Dip
The Big Dip brought together 130 students from various sport clubs to take a cold plunge in Tynemouth, raising £100.

Movember Pub Quiz – Biggest Ever SoHo Jesmond Quiz
The quiz night attracted 207 students and raised £300 for the cause.

Mo Awards
The Mo Awards was the final event in our Movember calendar and was a sell-out success, raising £3,500 on the night through ticket sales, raffle as well as a donation from our MVP Wednesday’s partner, Ross Clough.

On being part of the campaign, Elias Carroll said: “This has been the first year Northumbria University has had a Movember Ambassador, and while I was nervous at first, I was excited to see how it would go, and we have truly thrived. With the incredible support of the SU and Uni Sport, and working alongside VP of Sport Olly Scanlan, our Movember events and the entire month have come together brilliantly. It has meant so much to see teams from across the university unite for such an important cause, one that matters not only to me, but to people around the world. I’ve genuinely loved every minute of this month, and having the chance to build connections across so many teams has been amazing. I’m incredibly proud of everyone involved.”

Following the month of activity, Olly said: “It’s been amazing to hear student feedback and how much this month had such a positive effect on their university experience.”

Congratulations to everyone who played a part in this year’s campaign. It has new standard for Northumbria University, showing the incredible impact we can achieve when everyone comes together for a worthwhile cause. With over £23,000 raised and outstanding student engagement, the momentum will carry on well beyond November—and we’re already looking forward to Movember 2026.
