Northumbria University M1 Water Polo grabbed an incredible last minute winner in an 11-10 thriller to secure a bronze medal on BUCS Big Wednesday.
“From the start we were focused and well prepared,” said captain Seb Reichel. “The lads were full of heart and put in a really passionate performance.
“We went into the day massive underdogs - nobody had even expected us to make the final eight.
“It was tough because we were up against really physical and strong teams but I think it was an even fight.
“We obviously lost the first match but went on to win a thrilling match in the third-place playoff.
“We managed to take the lead at 11-10 with only seconds to go and had to hold off Durham for 40 seconds so it was a nailbiting finish!
“It was an emotional end to the competition but to win in the manner that we did made it even more special.
“As a team we couldn’t be more proud to come away with a medal – all of the work we’ve put in this season and over the last few months has paid off and we couldn’t be more relieved!”
