Northumbria University are well known for Rugby Union both locally and nationally. The men’s team form part of the BUCS Super Rugby league, comprising of the 10 best university teams across the UK in an exciting structure, ensuring the highest quality of rugby. With a home venue of Kingston Park Stadium, this high profile league will reach a head-to-head final held at Twickenham Stadium.

BUCS Super Rugby boasts a number of alumni who have progressed onto the international stage including Northumbria University’s Will Muir, who represented England 7’s in the World Cup final.

The women’s team are consistently in the top three within the UK and attract top players from the UK and overseas. Northumbria University are committed to player development and have a track record in supporting students to progress onto premiership teams and have a close link with local club Darlington Mowden Park Sharks. Recent alumni include Abbie Scott, Caity Mattinson and Jo Brown who have all recently represented England Senior women’s team.

W1 Rugby Union

The team play in the Premier North BUCS League. The team finished 2nd in their league last year and are hoping to go one better in the 2018/19 season.

Trials for Team Northumbria run in September/October, but to guarantee you'll be playing Rugby check out our Rugby Union Club where you can play against other students at Northumbria University in a fun and friendly environment. It's a great way to meet other students who love Rugby and our coaches are always watching out for players who want to make the step up to compete in BUCS against other university teams.
