The ‘Northumbria Mustangs’ are one of a handful of sports that allow mixed teams to compete in BUCS on behalf of the University. The Mustangs provide a very welcoming and open environment for all abilities to come along and join in. The team play weekly BUCS fixtures on a Sunday, with home fixtures taking place at Coach Lane.
Those completely new to the sport have the option to train and compete using a wide range of skills and tactical thinking. Equipment is provided for those first years that are keen to join. The team also have key links with local team ‘Northumberland Vikings’ and players often have a role in both teams.
On top of all the fun you’ll have playing and learning the amazing sport that is American Football, you’ll enjoy a variety of social events organised by the club making it the perfect opportunity to play the sport you love while having a great time and making new friends.
American Football had a very successful season in 2023/24, completing a double in BUCS by winning Northern 2B and the Northern Conference Cup. The team were awarded the Team of the Year award in the annual Northumbria Sport Awards. In addition, Club President Sam Nocera was shortlisted for the Commitment to Sport Award.
