Wednesday 27 September saw the return of Sports Fair to Sport Central, on what turned out to be a record-breaking day for Northumbria Sport with 7,639 students through the doors (8% more than in 2022).
The main arena doors were open from 11.00 to 17.00, welcoming both new and returning students to Northumbria Sport’s most anticipated event of the year.
With the aim of showcasing the enormity of sporting opportunities Northumbria University has to offer, Sports Fair proves to be one of the most compelling events on Northumbria Sport’s calendar – and 2023 did certainly not disappoint!
The main arena was a hive of excitement, allowing students to explore and enquire about the 34 different sport clubs. Clubs were stationed around the perimeter of the arena, ranging from Rugby Union and Hockey, to Gaelic Football and MMA. Club committee members were on hand throughout the day to answer any questions students may have, not to mention giving away a plethora of freebies (including bottles of Lucozade)!
The Northumbria Sport team supported students with information on our intramural leagues, volunteering and internship opportunities, as well as our new and completely FREE - ‘Just PLAY’ programme. These initiatives offer students the opportunity to get involved with a sport they know and love, or to try something completely different.
Fitness memberships were available to purchase all day, with those feeling energetic able to take part in our gym challenges. Thank you to all that took part, with a special congratulations extended to our winners: Layla Craven, Amelia Thomsen, Timo Dietze and Martyna Przybysz, who earned themselves an annual student fitness membership!
Thank you to all those who stopped by for helping to ensure this year’s Sports Fair was the biggest and best one to date, we look forward to seeing you at the Big Week of Sport! Find out more about the tasters and squad selection here.
