Volunteer Zambia

What is Volunteer Zambia?

Each year Northumbria University, as part of the Wallace Group, recruits and develops 4 students and a staff member as part of the international opportunity Volunteer Zambia. The group’s journey starts with both team and personal fundraising for the project and culminates with an 8-week volunteer placement in Lusaka, Zambia based at one of the hub sites. Whilst in Zambia, the students use sport as a tool to educate and positively impact people’s lives and work closely with hub site coaches and the Zambian NGO, Sport in Action, to help develop sporting opportunities for local children and young people in some of the most challenged communities.

The opportunity offers successful students the chance to work on an International Sport for Development project and will be an incredible experience to enhance your global awareness and to further expand your leadership and sports development experience, which you can continue to use and evolve in your future career.

What roles are there?

These roles will require you to work collaboratively with Zambian partners ‘Sport in Action’ (SIA) & Zambian Sport Federations by conducting a variety of practices to enhance the facilitation of sport in select hub-site communities. These practices can include:

  • Outreach (Increasing Participation & Leadership Capacity)
  • Improving Structures & Scheduling
