Volunteer Zambia

What is Volunteer Zambia?

Each year Northumbria University, as part of the Wallace Group of universities, recruit and develop 5 students and a staff member as part of the international opportunity Volunteer Zambia. The group’s journey starts with a year of fundraising for the project and culminates with a 6 week volunteer placement in Lusaka, Zambia. Whilst in Zambia the students use sport as a tool to educate and positively impact people’s lives and work closely with the Zambian NGO Sport In Action to help develop sporting opportunities for local people. 

What roles are there?

Student Sport Development Officers

Students are recruited each year to perform the role of Student Sport Development Officer accross the key sports (netball, basketball, womens football & mens football. The role involves working in different capacities as a Student Outreach Officers, Sport Specific Activators/Coach Educations and Coaching opportunities with students being placed at various hubs during their time in Zambia. 

Media, Marketing & Communications Officers 

Each year three students from accross the Wallace Group univerisities are able to take on the role of Media, Marketing, & Communications within each group of the Volunteer Zambia project. 

Each Media Officer will spend 6 weeks in Zambia helping promote activity and news from across the project and highlight the work of Sport In Action.
