The Brit Challenge

We are proud to be hosting The Brit Challenge this year alongside Northumbria University and Northumbria Students Union. The aim is to help promote student and staff-wellbeing and offering accessible challenges which everyone can get involved in. Below you'll find all the challenges you can: 

Please note: Social Netball and Volleyball sessions can be booked via the Social Sport button the NU Sport App. 


Day 1: Wednesday 1 March - Get Active with the Brit Challenge

Free Class Pass
20 class places available, collect from Sport Central reception, first come first serve

Lunch Run
Time: 12:00 – 12:30
Location: Meet outside Sport Central
Description: The Northumbria Sport Couch to 5k is designed for students and staff who are new to running. This run group will help you to gradually work up towards running 5km in just 9 weeks. With friendly instructors, enjoy running and exploring some of Newcastle City Centre’s green spaces.

Lunch Walk
Time: 12:30 – 13:00
Location: Meet outside Café Central
Description: Take some time away from your work and get outside! Join us for a lunchtime walk to Exhibition Park!

Row Brit Challenge
Time 10:00am
Location: Corry, Sport Central
Description: Challenge yourself to row 2,300m either as an individual or part of a team! Top of the leader board prizes available!


Day 2 - Thursday 2 March - Health Assessments

Health Assessment
6 10-minute appointments available between 12:00 – 13:00
Visit our friendly personal trainers who will be able to test your strength, endurance and flexibility by completing one of our health assessments.


Day 3 - Friday 3 March - Random Act Of Kindness

Send a colleague or friend a message to say thank you and brighten up their day! We are promoting random acts of kindness through our wellbeing boards that are situated across campus! 


Day 4 - Saturday 4 March - Go For A Walk

Get outdoors, get some fresh air and increase your vitamin D! Go for a 30-minute walk and take in your local surroundings!

Why not arrange to do something like go for a coffee, walk, or activity with a friend.

Day 5 - Sunday 5 March - Switch Off

Switch off your mind and reduce stimulation by relaxing without technology 1 hour before bedtime!


Day 6 - Monday 6 March - Learn a new skill

Volleyball
Time: 17:00 – 18:00
Location: Sport Central
Description: Learn how to volley, bump and spike in our social sport volleyball session. Whether you have never played volleyball before or have experience come along and have some fun!

 


Day 7 - Tuesday 7 March - Lunch Run

Day 8 - Wednesday 8 March - International Womens Day

To celebrate International Women’s Day, Newcastle City Council are running This Girl Can 5k Run/Walk/Jog at exhibition park from 18:00 – 19:00. Book your free space here


Day 9 - Thursday 9 March - University Mental Health Day

Day 10 - Friday 10 March - Take part in one of our online workouts

The Northumbria Sport YouTube Channel has over 20 home workouts that you can try. These wide variety workouts are no longer than 30 minutes and suitable to do in your own home! No equipment is needed. Northumbria University Youtube Channel


Day 11 - Saturday 11 March - Make a nutritious meal 

Follow one of the recipes in our nutritious recipe book, put together by our student interns. 


Day 12 - Sunday 12 March - Practice Mindfulness 

Using online resources such as this video from Every Mind Matters


Day 13 - Sunday 13 March - Free Class Pass

Day 14 - Monday 14 March - Learn a new skill

Netball 
Time: 17:00 – 18:00
Description: Social Netball is the perfect environment for people who want to learn new skills in an inclusive and welcoming environment.


Day 15 - Tuesday 15 March - Give Back

Promoting ways to give back:

Volunteer in the local community 
Donate to a worthy cause – Charities/Food banks/Clothes banks  
Give blood – help save a life 
Support local – use a local business 
Support the environment -Take part in a beach clean/tree plant

Day 17 - Friday 17 March - World Sleep Day

Did you know sleep helps brain function, reduces disease risk, and boosts your immune system? Aim for at least 8 hours of sleep on World Sleep Day!

Parkrun is a free, community event where you can walk, jog, run, volunteer, or spectate! Parkrun is 5k and takes place every Saturday morning. Find out where your local parkrun is and get involved. Find out more here

Day 22 - Wednesday 22 March - Therapy Dogs

Come along to the Students Union for a couple of hours of dog love! The fully trained therapy dogs come along for a couple of hours where they love a cuddle and a stroke. 


Day 23 - Thursday 23 March - Get Active 

 

Free Day Pass
Northumbria Sport are providing 20 class passes on this day. All you need to do is collect them from Sport Central reception. They are available on a first come first served basis.
