The Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS) is a Sport England funded partnership between talented athletes, delivery sites and national governing bodies of sport. We work together to bring the best out of our country’s most exciting young talent.
TASS helps athletes – aged 16-plus – to balance their sport within the rest of their lives, be they in education, training or another form of personal development.
Northumbria University is currently ranked as one of the top universities for sport within British University and Colleges Sport (BUCS) leagues. Over recent years, Northumbria has invested in resources and facilities to ensure that students can experience world-class support services in state-of-art facilities.
At Northumbria University, we offer a number of flexible learning courses, which can fit around the commitments and demands of an elite athlete. These include the option to study full, part or through distance learning across a range of over 150 courses for both undergraduate and postgraduate study. More information regarding the courses we offer at Northumbria can be found on our website.

We understand the demands of being a student athlete and we aim to support students to have a well-rounded approach to life. Our team of professional support staff work together to offer multi-disciplinary support in a high-performance environment. By combining this with additional opportunities within our volunteering and student development programmes we aim to support student to build on their personal skills and profile in preparation for life after university.
Northumbria University’s dual career support for highly talented sporting individuals enables students to achieve their academic and sporting potential through a dual career pathway offer. It is a priority of Northumbria University to provide a platform for student athletes to reach their educational and sporting potential.
