Northumbria University are one of 17 University’s supported by the Royal and Ancient. Each year the R&A invests more than £300,000 in student and university golf. Currently, the R&A supports golf programmes at seventeen universities and awards 100 individual foundation scholarships to players from all over the world.
The centrepiece of the year is the annual R&A Foundation Scholars Tournament. The contest is held in St Andrews in April over 54 holes. The tournament offers the leading man a place on the European Palmer Cup team to face the USA, with the leading woman receiving a starting place at a Ladies European Tour event. The event carries World Amateur Golf Ranking points.
Funding towards golf or education related items (i.e. tuition fees, books, accommodation, golf memberships etc)
Individual applicants for the R&A Scholarship must be in full-time, tertiary education. Male applicants must hold a handicap of +1 or better, while female applicants must be 2 or below. Applications will also be considered for players who have been selected for a national team or squad, even if they do not meet the handicap requirements.
HOW TO APPLY
Applications open in August and close in November annually with forms are available via our coaches at Close House or internal staff within Northumbria Sport. We will work closely with our coaches at Close House when submitting applications to ensure everyone we feel is eligible gets an application in. More infromation on the R&A can be found below:
