FUNdraiser Friday
FUNdraiser Fridays are your opportunity to combine two brilliant things: having a laugh with your mates and raising money for a life-changing cause. These one-off charity events are a core part of our student sport community’s commitment to giving back – and they’re open to anyone who wants to get involved. FUNdraiser Fridays are about bringing people together, raising money, and having a great time doing it.
Where does the money go?
The funds raised go directly to support Volunteer Zambia – a long-running international development programme that uses the power of sport to deliver education, leadership, and empowerment projects in Zambia.
Alternatively, you can choose to jointly raise funds for another cause or charity of your choice, splitting the total amount raised 50/50 between Volunteer Zambia and your chosen organisation. This gives you the flexibility to support a cause that’s close to your heart or relevant to your club or society, while still contributing to a global programme that transforms lives through sport.

What does a FUNdraiser Friday involve?
FUNdraiser Fridays are completely flexible – you choose the activity; we help you bring it to life. We provide guidance, promotional support, and access to facilities where possible. All you need is an idea, some enthusiasm, and a team of helpers.
How to Host Your Event
- Get an idea - think of an event that will attract attention, participation, and donations. Big or small, it all counts!
- Get in touch - email andy.barton@northumbria.ac.uk to register your interest and propose your idea. We’ll help you with logistics, promotion, and any necessary permissions.
- Get planning - assemble your team, promote your event, and get your fundraising page or donation method ready.
- Host your event - deliver your activity on a Friday (or a date we agree on), make it fun, inclusive, and impactful.
- Celebrate and share - tag us on socials, share your success, and know you’ve contributed to a meaningful cause.
Considerations before you apply
- It’s FREE to take part – there’s no cost to host a FUNdraiser Friday
- Events should be safe, inclusive, and respectful of the university community
- If you need equipment or a venue, we’ll do our best to help, but make requests early
- Any money raised must be donated to Volunteer Zambia (and if applicable, the charity of your choice) through our approved donation channels
- Promotion is key – we’ll help, but it’s up to you to shout about it too!
