Recently the government announced changes to the tax and NIC advantages of some salary sacrifice schemes. This means that you will no longer be able to opt-in to the gym membership via salary sacrifice after 29th March 2017.
The salary sacrifice scheme is very popular among Northumbria university staff as it provides the lowest cost membership to our facility, working out at around a 32% saving compared to paying for the membership out of the scheme.
Since all staff members currently participating in the salary sacrifice scheme will have their current membership honoured for 12 months, we are encouraging any staff members currently using our facility or thinking of using it to sign up before the deadline so they can make these savings for as long as possible. Even if your are already in the salary sacrifice scheme you can update your opt-in so you can extend your time in the scheme for the maximum amount of time. See below for what to do depending on your situation.
What you need to do now
Current salary sacrifice membership holders - Please go to our memberships page and fill out our Salary Sacrifice form, even if you have recently done so. This will ensure your membership is extended for another 12 months and you stay in the scheme for as long a possible
Current non-salary sacrifice staff members - Please go to our memberships page and fill out a salary sacrifice form to get on our best value memership. We guarantee that this will remain our cheapest membership option for staff for the next 12 months.
Current staff non-members - Go to our memberships page and see what is available at our fantastic facility that is right next to your workplace. We'd love to see you here and our salary sacrifice option gives you the best value membership.
Current New Year. New You members - If you'd like to sign up to extend and convert your membership you will have the remaining 2 months of your membership deducted from the cost of your membership over a 12 month period. For example, instead of paying £32.50/month for 12 months, you will pay £29.17/month for 12 months, equating to a £39.96 saving over the year.
