Varsity. Is. Back.

One of the most anticipated events on the University’s sporting calendar has just got bigger, with the majority of fixtures taking place on Friday 22 March and Sport Central being the host of the finale fixtures.

The day offers students more chance than ever before to get involved and support Northumbria in a host of fixtures across Northumbria and Newcastle campuses, as they come up against city rivals Newcastle University

Varsity aims to highlight student sport in Newcastle, by students from both Northumbria and Newcastle Universities going head-to-head and competing for the Varsity Trophy. The battle for the trophy has already begun and will take place throughout March, with the finale here at Sport Central.

Friday 22 March will see Domain in the Students’ Union transformed into a Fan Zone, ensuring it is a day to be enjoyed by all. Students and staff are encouraged to pop in from 15:00 – 19:00 and get into the Varsity spirit, through face painting, games, and challenges, as well as opportunity for a drink and some freebies.

Students and staff can then make the short walk across to Sport Central where they can watch the finale fixtures of Futsal M1, Netball W1 & Volleyball M1, starting from 19:30.

Should students find themselves wanting to get involved with more FREE live sporting action, fixtures in American Football, Hockey, Football, Rugby Union, Pool and Snooker are all taking place in the week’s running up to the main Varsity event on 22 March.

The final day will then include clubs that have not featured prior. Ranging from Tennis to Dodgeball, and Basketball to Lacrosse, there will be 23 different sports in action across the day.

A full fixture list and details of how to get to the venues can be found here, making it as easy as possible for students to get involved, support your Uni and BRING THE NOISE.
