Saving Grace | Futsal Captain Grace Donnelly selected as Student Sport President

Saving Grace! After a championship winning year on the pitch, Grace Donnelly has secured a new title. Student Sport President.

After a very competitive recruitment process, Grace was appointed Northumbria Student Sport President for 2019-20.

Grace has been involved with all areas of Northumbria Sport throughout her time as a student over the last 3 years. As the captain of the Women’s Futsal Club during the 18-19 season she led the club to win a sixth consecutive BUCS gold medal, her third personally. Further to that, as an instrumental member of the Women’s Football 1st Team she helped the team secure both the BUCS Premier League North title and the BUCS Championship, not dropping a game all season!

As a Club and Active Halls Intern, Grace helped increase student participation and engagement where she promoted and encouraged a wide range of activities to students who were not engaged in sport, as well as playing a crucial role in organising and delivering the FA People’s Cup event. Grace also completed the UK 3 Peaks Challenge in 2018 as part of the Adventure Programme, raising money for the Northumbria Sport Foundation.

Grace commented “I’m so excited to be Student Sports President for the upcoming year here at Northumbria. I’m looking forward to working alongside such a great workforce and can’t wait to get started in such an exciting role”

Grace’s role will be focused on supporting students develop their Clubs and increasing overall student engagement and inclusion into all of our sporting programmes.

And there’s a few key areas she’s really looking forward to; “I can’t wait for the big events this year. The Sport, Health & Wellbeing Fair is always a great way to kick the year off and the BIG Weekender is without doubt the best way to round it off!”
