Northumbria Sport are delighted to announce that Frazer Soloman and Mathieu Othwaite have been chosen to take part in a strength and conditioning internship at California State University, home of the Northridge Matadors.
The internship, which is provided through a partnership Northumbria has with Sheffield Hallam, gives the two Northumbria S&C students an opportunity to work in an elite NCAA Division 1 university programme this coming summer at the California college.
Last year, now Northumbria graduate Alex Webb had the opportunity to go state side with the S&C internship and was keen to stress how much of an impact it had upon his professional growth.
“Over the summer I was lucky enough to go over to California and work at a Division 1 college based in Los Angeles [Cal State]”, said Webb.
“The experiences I gained and people I met will stay with me forever and I learned so much about myself as both a practitioner but even more so as a person.
“This internship is a great opportunity to network and make connections with influential people within the industry.
“Working within a D1 college means student athletes tend to be from all over the world.
“So, it’s a great opportunity to meet new people and share your coaching experiences with similar people with different coaching philosophies.
“I was fortunate enough to meet Bob Alejo, a coach with 30+ years in the industry.
“Due to connections I had made at Northridge I had also arranged opportunities to go visit the S&C departments at UCLA, Pepperdine University and LA Galaxy too.
“What I can say is this opportunity is a once in a lifetime experience in which you’ll never forget.
“You’ll make friends for life and you never know what opportunities may arise from it.”
