Northumbria President Lays Out Plans
Kerry-Anne Hastings Has High Hopes For 2017/18

Northumbria University’s new Student Sport President Kerry-Anne Hastings has big plans for the 2017/2018 academic year, as she looks to raise greater awareness of student sport and increase participation.

With a First Class Honours degree in Applied Sport Science under her belt, the Scotland Under 21 international hockey player is turning her attention to making sure Northumbria has another great year of sporting successes.

“My plan for the new academic year is to brain storm and work with the team behind the scenes to help increase the participation rates of sport at Northumbria,” she said.

“Going to university is about trying new things and jumping in head first to all the amazing opportunities that are offered by your university.

“I would like to be able to promote and showcase Northumbria sport in different ways to highlight that there is something out there for all, no matter what.

“As President, I’m also hoping to bring fresh ideas and new initiatives to enhance the engagement and success of the sporting events that are held throughout the year at Northumbria.

“I’ll be kicking things off at the Sport, Health and Wellbeing Fair held on Wednesday September 13.

“I would also like to implement any ideas or feedback that the students have to offer and be a better communication link between staff and students, not just within sport, but within all the university faculties.”

This year TN will be looking for their fourth consecutive Stan Calvert Cup win over Newcastle University and the pressure will be on Kerry-Anne to keep the streak going.

“I am very excited for this year’s Stan Calvert as I will be more heavily involved with the organisation, hopefully creating another great varsity,” added Hastings.

“I hope to work well with the new Newcastle Sport President and to enhance the student engagement.

“This will hopefully give the Stan Calvert Cup an even bigger name on campus.”
