Northumbria Foundation Reaps Race Rewards

It was lucky 13 for the Northumbria Sport Foundation as a team of staff and students completed the Great North Run in style.

More than £1,300 was raised to boost the charity’s coffers - funds that will support a series of community sport projects across the 2017/18 academic year.

And Sport Engagement Manager David Jones - one of this year’s Northumbria GNR team - was full of praise for his fellow runners.

“We had a team of 13 students and staff on Sunday running for the Northumbria Sport Foundation and the atmosphere was fantastic,” he said.

“Everyone completed the course (a combined 170.3 miles), with Mechanical Engineering Masters student, Callum Redding, coming home in the fastest time at 1hr44mins46secs.

“Callum is also the captain of TN boxing and so it made sense to let him clock the best time. I slowed down by a few minutes so he could cross the line first.

“In total, the team raised £1,349.75 for the Foundation and we already have a good idea where that money will go.”
