The Northumbria Sport Foundation’s reputation as a rising force for the promotion of disability sport has been recognised at a prestigious North East awards ceremony.

The Foundation was nominated in the Outstanding Club Or Group category at the 2018 North East Disability Sports Awards.

And NORTH Wheelchair Basketball Coach Claire Harper was shortlisted for the Disability Coach Of The Year prize.

Northumbria staff and students were out in force at the star-studded dinner at Durham’s Ramside Hall to celebrate another landmark year for disability sport in the region.

And David Jones, Sport Engagement Manager, said: “We enjoyed a fantastic night surrounded by like-minded people who understand the value of promoting participation within disability sport.

“It was great to see the Foundation gain recognition for their hard work during the past 12 months and we couldn’t think of a more deserving nominee for Coach Of The Year than Claire.

“She has been an outstanding member of the NORTH team and it was great to see her in the mix at the awards.”
