Football will take priority at the Newcastle Flacons Kingston Park ground on Sunday as United’s Women compete in the fourth round of the FA Cup. A win in the tie against Ipswich Town Women would put them through to the Fifth Round, where they could meet an array of the top teams from the Women’s Super League.
Northumbria University and Newcastle United Women Head Coach, Becky Langley has high expectations for the game for the game with her side currently sitting top of the Women’s Premier North Division and will be looking for her team to continue their great recent form.
Langley knows it will be a tough game but is excited for the opportunity:
“I’m absolutely thrilled to be a part of the journey, and this will be a huge opportunity for the players and coaching staff. It will be an electrifying experience for us all at Kingston Park”
Current Northumbria students taking to the pitch include Katie Barker, Kacie Elson, Erin Nelson, Jane Harland, Beth Guy, Sharna Wilkinson and Rachel Woolston, as well as alumni including Georgia Gibson, Grace Donnelly, Ellen Packham, Olivia Watt and Rachel Lee. In addition to the players, coaching staff Tom Gallagher and Lloyd Miller both part of the Northumbria University Alumni community.
Current United first choice keeper, Northumbria Alumni and 2019/20 Sport President, Grace Donnelly, said:
“I can’t wait for the game on Sunday, there’s a positive buzz around camp at the minute and it shows in our performances. The cup run has been amazing, and I am hoping playing at Kingston Park will bring in some support and give us an extra boost”
Northumbria Sport wishes Newcastle United all the best for the game. We are excited for the game this Sunday and what the future holds for our continuing partnership!
