From the 23rd to the 30th July Sport Central will be transformed into a fencing arena for the Commonwealth Junior and Cadet Fencing Championships!

Over 400 of the Commonwealth's best fencers will be descending into Newcastle for this 8 day event to compete with our Home Nations of England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales.

This is an age-group event for U20s and U17s fencing in the three Olympic disciplines of foil, epee and sabre.

This event only takes place every three years and was previously held in Cape Town in South Africa in 2015, St. Helier, Jersey 2012 and Chennai in India 2006 with England being currently the Commonwealth champions in all age groups so there is high expectation for the home country!

Newcastle fencer, Millie Robson will be competing in the women's epee events on the 23rd and 25th July so a chance to cheer one of our local heros!

Event Co-Ordinator and former Commonwealth Gold medallist, Beth Davidson says, “This is a great opportunity for the North East Region to see some of the best fencers from all over the World compete in this major event! Visitors will have a chance to see and try fencing in and around the venue, getting close to all the action!”
