Football is one of Northumbria’s biggest sports with opportunities to play at any level! Football is also one of Northumbria’s Focus sports with a great reputation, both the Men’s and Women’s 1st teams compete in a high level BUCS league. We also have Men's 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th teams as well as Women's 2nd and 3rd teams entered in to BUCS.
There are many options for you get involved whether that’s playing competitively in BUCS, developing your skills or even just having a kick about with your mates. On top of all the fun you’ll have competing and training, you’ll enjoy a variety of social events organised by the club making it the perfect opportunity to play the sport you love while having a great time and making new friends.
Women's Football 1st team are shortlisted for the Teamof the Year Award at Northumbria Sports Ball Awards 2026, following their Championship title, with Head of Football Michael Havelock shortlisted for Coach of the Year. (Sports Ball Winners will be announced at the event on Sunday 3rd May 2026).
We currently offer 8x Men's Football teams and 3x Women's Football teams, all competing in BUCS. Annual membership prices range from £200-£240. Memberships will be available to purchase following squad selection events held in September and October (by invite only following registering of interest below or at Sports Fair).

INTRAMURAL Football Leagues
Football Leagues are a great way to get involved with football while at University. These student only leagues provide the perfect balance between social and competitive football, for students with any level of experience, ensuring you create life-long memories with your friends while also competing for your very own piece of Northumbria Sport silverware. Ideal for students wanting to compete without the travel involved in BUCS fixtures. More information on our INTRAMURAL offer can be found here with the following options available:
- Wednesdays – 11-a-side Football (grass)
- Fridays – 5-a-side Football (indoor)
- Saturdays – 7-a-side Football (3G)
Participation in Intramural Leagues is a per person cost (to be confirmed for 2026/27).
