The Northumbria Sport Foundation (reg. 1111675) provides sporting opportunities to develop people and communities, focusing upon the North East of England.
The Foundation is Northumbria Sport’s partner charity. It is able to harness the enterprise and leadership skills of Northumbria University students to raise funds and deliver sports programmes for the benefit of the community and the students themselves.
The Foundation will use sport to benefit its key action areas:
- Youth Development
- Equality & Inclusion
- Health & Wellbeing
- Community Development
Whilst the Foundation is linked to Northumbria University, it is structurally and financially independent, meaning that fundraising thousands of pounds each year is required to run its life-changing programmes. To do this, we organise fundraising challenges every year, apply for grants to financially support specific programmes, and rely on donations from Northumbria students, staff and alumni, and the local community.
The Foundation also incorporates wider engagement activities, such as junior sport camps and clubs and school & college experiences, These provide young people with unique opportunities to come to Northumbria University and take part in sport to support their learning, development and aspirations. Money that is made from these programme is re-invested into our community outreach programmes and our NU Thinking project.
The Northumbria Sport Foundation is signed up, and committed, to both the Sport & Recreation Alliance's Mental Health Charter and to the City of Sanctuary network emphasising our support and commitment to the wellbeing of our community and supporting those in need.
